In a Radio Frequency (RF) environment, mobile RF computers on the shopfloor are used. The shopfloor can be a warehouse, distribution hub or production hall, for example, but also a port, container environment or a shop.
The wide variety of mobile RF computers falls into the handheld and forklift RF computers categories. The mobile computers set up a wireless connection with the host system via access points connected directly to the computer network.
This allows the host system (usually a warehouse management system) to issue online and real-time instructions to staff such as order pickers and feed replenishment instructions automatically to the forklift drivers.
Using an RF system in a logistical environment reduces the percentage of errors and can increase efficiency by combining inward and outward movements, for example.
